16

Place 4 different coloured cones in the 4 corners of the hall.

Divide the children into 4 groups, each at a corner.

Stage 1 -The teacher calls out 2 colours and the children at these 2 coloured corners change places. (emphasise safety - they will be running towards each other at speed)!

The children take on the colour of the corner they are standing at. Once they are able to move very quickly from colour to colour, go onto stage 2.

Put 1 child in the middle as a catcher, each child has 3 lives. When a child is caught they lose one life.

The game can be stopped when the first child loses all 3 lives. In this way no child is left sitting out.

Change the catcher frequently as they become tired fairly quickly.

Fishy Fishy Cross My Ocean
Resources Numbers Rules Difficulty
None

Large group is best, 15+

Choose 2 players to be “sharks” they stand at one end of the playing area

All the other players are “fish” and they stand at the other side of the playing area

When the 2 sharks call out “FISHY FISHY CROSS MY OCEAN” all the fishy have to run to the opposite end of the playing area without getting tagged by a shark.

If you are tagged, then you turn into “seaweed”. They must stand still on the spot that they got tagged, and try to touch other fish as they pass by. If they do, then they too turn into seaweed.

The game ends when everyone has been turned into “seaweed”

To make it harder, you can have more sharks, or you could make the playing area smaller.

When the teacher calls out “the farmer is about” the birds fly around the field; thy are not allowed into the field or they will be caught by the farmer (out of the game)

When the teacher calls out “the farmer is asleep”, the birds swoop down and carry off one piece of corn at a time back to their nest. When all the corn has disappeared, the birds count their corn to find out which are the greediest!

Ladders
Resources Numbers Rules Difficulty
None

Large groups are best

People should get into pairs and sit down facing each other with their feet touching. The pairs should arrange themselves so that they are forming a ladder, with their legs being the rungs. The participants on one side of the ladder are one team and the other side are another team. Each pair has a number.

When the leader calls out a number, the pair with that number, have to stand up, run up over the other rungs, round the back of the ladder and back up the rungs until they get back to their spot… they are trying to beat their partner back.

However get back first scores a point for their team.

The game ends when every pair has had a run through the ladder at least once, or when the team reaches at set amount of points, which have been determined prior to the start of the game.

To make it harder, the leader can call out more than one number at a time.
