In order to support teachers in delivering Tops an example of how to structure a Top Play/Top Sport session is shown below. Teachers can be consistent with the structure of each session e.g. warm up, games session, cool down but may vary the games section.

On Your Own:
rolling a ball into space and collecting it using either hand, two hands, quickly & slowly

Roll Tag:
working in pairs rolling ball on the ground trying to hit other tagger on the legs |

Roll Goal:
in teams of three roller, goalkeeper and collector. Each player takes turns and has five rolls at goal |
Repeat appropriately a range of movement skills in response to simple given tasks |

Speedy Gonzales:
In teams of three two rollers and one ‘speedy’. Rollers send ball to each other, after collecting it they can take two steps before sending it back avoiding ‘speedy’. If ‘speedy’ gets the ball he changes with the player who last rolled it. |
Develop very simply one idea in response to a given task or as part of solving a simple problem |

Four players in two pairs. Players stand behind line B to collect the ball and forward to line A to roll the ball then move to the back of the team

Caterpillar:
First player must be behind the start line with others in line behind. Ball is passed from racket to racket starting with the last person

Knockout:
While moving around an area players try to knock other players ball off their rackets |
Participate in simple competitive situations |

Keep it Going:
players hit alternately, aiming to keep the ball going one bounce allowed |
Use knowledge and understanding to apply skills with control and accuracy in predictable situations

Tennis Rounders:
One player hand feeds ball to the hitter, after bouncing ball is hit into field area. After hitting, batter will score runs by either running to left or right marker |
Co-operate and compete in small groups where a degree of individual responsibility is required

two groups either side of net, hit ball once and run to back of group aiming for 6 hits in total
