Outer Hebrides Community Cultural Network

South Uist, Friday 31st October & Saturday 1st November 2008

Main Event venue: Southend Hall, Daliburgh
Concert venue: St.Peter’s Hall, Daliburgh
Community host: Ceòlas

Primary aim:

  • To provide a networking opportunity for the Outer Hebrides Community Cultural Network.

Objectives:

  • To consider, discuss and debate the relevant Outer Hebrides Cultural Pathfinder final report recommendations, in particular those relating to widening access to culture and cultural planning as part of the community planning process.
  • To provide the opportunity to share these findings and other common experiences with relevant rural local authority areas (Orkney, Shetland, Argyll & Islands, Skye/Highlands).
  • To showcase the culture of the Outer Hebrides.

Anticipated outputs:

  • Action plan based on the Pathfinder recommendations and event discussions presented as a report to the Comhairle’s Sustainable Development Committee in December.
  • Improved networking links and shared experiences between OHCCN and other relevant rural local authorities.

It is anticipated that over the two days there will be 80-90 delegates, from OH cultural organisations, community planning partners, OH local authority councillors, local authority cultural representatives from Argyll & Islands, Orkney, Shetland and Skye and national agency representatives such as HI Arts, HIE, SAC etc.

Benefits

It is anticipated that the delegates will benefit from:

  • Gaining feedback from the Pathfinder process and contributing to cultural planning as part of the community planning process.
  • Networking with other local authorities and national cultural organisations.
  • Discussing and debating relevant issues within a national and local policy context.
  • The stimulation of experiencing cultural activities out with their own community.

Concert & Ceilidh

There will be entertainment on Friday evening hosted by Ceòlas with local musicians and a ceilidh dance, providing a relaxed and informal context for networking.
