Policy Statement – Equality of Treatment and Access:
Employment and Service Provision

As legislation relating to social inclusion, access, disabilities and employment puts public authorities under additional specific duties, the Comhairle has adopted an Equality of Treatment and Access Policy which will apply in all of its service areas.

Through this policy, the Comhairle will seek to ensure that no-one is unfairly excluded from accessing public services, including employment. As new areas of equality continue to open up, this is intended to be an ‘all-embracing’ policy which does not rely on a reference to specific areas of discrimination.

Your views on the policy are invited. In forming your response, you may wish to consider the following:

• Do you agree with the principles set out in this policy?
• Do you believe these principles will be fully implemented through the practical steps outlined?
• How do you think the Comhairle could most effectively monitor this policy?
• Are there any additional comments you wish to make?
