Consumer Direct Scotland
Background
Consumer Direct Scotland operates from Shawbost on the Isle of Lewis and is run by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar (CnES) on behalf of all 32 Scottish local authorities.
Isle of Lewis.
CnES was awarded the contract by the Department for Trade and Industry following a competitive bidding process. The centre employs around 28 FTE staff. Consumer Direct Scotland is one of a network of Consumer Direct centres across the UK.
Consumer Direct aims to be the first point of contact for consumers, delivering first tier advice on a range of consumer matters and acting as a gateway to other complementary services where further help is required.
The helpline is available from 0800 to 1830 Mondays to Fridays and 0900 to 1300 on Saturdays, excluding bank holidays and public holidays. Consumers are also able to contact the service via the dedicated Consumer Direct website. By logging on to www.consumerdirect.gov.uk advice is available on a range of issues and consumers can request advice on any problems they have with goods or services via email.
