The
aims and objectives of the Community Wellbeing Forum are to ensure
that, through joint working between the partners, in the Western
Isles:
EVERYONE HAS ACCESS TO GOOD FOOD, WATER, SHELTER AND FUEL AT A
REASONABLE COST BY:
PEOPLE'S
GOOD HEALTH IS PROTECTED THROUGH THE CREATION OF SAFE, CLEAN, PLEASANT
ENVIRONMENTS AND HEALTH SERVICES THAT EMPHASISE PREVENTION OF ILLNESS
AS WELL AS PROPER CARE FOR THE SICK BY:
- Delivering
high quality, patient centred healthcare, public health and
health improvement services to all the people of the Western
Isles
- Implementing
programmes that make the places where people study, work, relax
and live more 'health promoting'
- Educating
and influencing people and organisations in the Western Isles
to adopt safer policies, practices and procedures that prevent
accidents and promote safety
- Supporting
action by Communities to improve or protect their environment
LEVELS
OF ILLNESS AND HEALTH DAMAGING BEHAVIOURS ARE MAINTAINED AT AS LOW
A LEVEL AS POSSIBLE BY:
- Improving
the health and well being of disadvantaged groups and reducing
health inequalities
- Continuing
programmes that focus on:
PEOPLE
LIVE WITHOUT FEAR OF PERSONAL VIOLENCE FROM CRIME OR PERSECUTION
BECAUSE OF THEIR PERSONAL BELIEFS, RACE, GENDER OR SEXUALITY BY:
- Preventing
crime reducing the fear of crime and improving awareness of
actual crime rates
- Supporting
families
- Dealing
with not only the effects of but the causes of domestic abuse
EVERYONE
HAS ACCESS TO AND IS ENCOURAGED TO DEVELOP THE SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE
AND INFORMATION NEEDED TO PLAY A FULL PART IN SOCIETY BY:
- Improving
educational opportunities and participation in lifelong learning
for disadvantaged groups
- Encouraging
active citizenship
- Promoting
inclusive voluntary and community organisations
COMMUNITIES
AND INDIVIDUALS HAVE THE CONFIDENCE TO ACHIEVE THEIR POTENTIAL BY:
- Regenerating
disadvantaged communities and developing community capacity
- Developing
the capacity of individuals, families and communities to support
and develop themselves
- Working
together to reduce isolation and loneliness
- Helping
to develop community led sustainable services

overriding principle will be to ensure that the work of the Community
Wellbeing Forum makes a positive contribution to the development
of healthy, active, strong and sustainable communities in the Western
Isles and helps to create conditions that will bring about the reversal
of population decline
The following principles will also underpin everything that the
Community Well Being Forum does:
