State of the Environment Report 1994-95

Introduction

Welcome to the first Western Isles State of the Environment Report. The Council has compiled this statistical document as part of its commitment to environmental improvement. The aims of this report are:

to produce a picture of the current quality and sustainability of our physical and social environment,

to establish a baseline from which future changes can be measured,

to highlight areas where improvement is required,

to act as a tool in the planning of future policies and resource allocation,

to stimulate and inform public debate about local environmental issues.
