Food Safety Service

The prime function of the Comhairle's Food Safety Service is to ensure safe food practices and premises with the primary functions of enforcing legislation, training people and promoting high standards.

There are over 500 premises within the islands where food is sold, prepared or eaten. Premises are inspected according to the risks posed to the consumer and inspection frequencies range from 6 months (for the highest risks) to 5 years (for the lowest).
