Housing Associations Merge with HHP

The Hebridean Housing Partnership (HHP) is pleased to announce that the five locally based housing associations in the Western Isles have merged with HHP.

The five housing associations Muirneag Housing Association, Buidheann Taigheadais Na Meadhanan, Taighean Ceann A Tuath Na Hearadh, Berneray Housing Association and Barra & Vatersay Housing Association consulted their tenants during October and November 2006. TPAS carried out interviews in tenants’ homes. The tenants responded positively to HHP becoming their new landlord.

The addition of 300 houses to HHP’s housing stock was welcomed by HHP’s Chair George Lonie. He said “HHP can provide an excellent service for the tenants of the five associations. We would like to thank the Committee members of the associations who operated without staff for the last fifteen years. They did a tremendous job in building much needed houses at a time when the Comhairle had ceased newbuild and there were not any other developing RSL’s in the area. We hope that as many of the Committee members as possible will service on HHP’s Area Committees. We do not want to lose the expertise that they have built up over the years.”

The merger took effect from 1st April 2007.
