With reference to item 11 of the Minute of Meeting of the Arts and Leisure Committee of 17 May 1994 the Director of Administration and Legal Services submitted a Report concerning a request from the owner of the Trading Post, Matheson Road, Stornoway, to purchase an additional area of ground at the Macaulay Road Playing Field adjacent to the Trading Post. It was indicated in the Report that the Committee had agreed to defer consideration of the request pending clarification of the legal position, in addition to the use to which the land may be put and following the receipt of the views of the Stornoway Trust, who were the superiors. It was stated that the Committee had remitted to the Sub-Committee to undertake a site visit to enable Members to assess the extent of the land requested by the owner of the Trading Post, in the context of the overall requirement for playing facilities in Stornoway. |
The Sub-Committee then undertook a site visit to the Macaulay Road playing field. The Sub-Committee reconvened at the Council Offices to give consideration to the matter, in the light of the site visit.
Mrs Mary Bremner, seconded by Mr Donald Macleod, moved that the matter be continued pending submission of a comprehensive Report, incorporating all relevant information, to the Arts and Leisure Committee.
Mr Angus M Graham, seconded by Mr Donald Murray, moved as an amendment that the Council do not sell the additional area of ground sought at the Macaulay Road Playing Field.
On the matter being put to the vote, the amendment received the majority of votes cast and it was agreed to recommend accordingly insofar as the Sub-Committee's interest was concerned.
