VOLUNATARY SECTOR CAPITAL PROJECTS 2000/2001 With reference to item 122 of the Minute of Meeting of 29 September 1998, the Director of Education and Leisure Services submitted a Report regarding the Project Initiation reports submitted by voluntary organisations in respect of Capital Projects proposed for the financial year 2000/2001. The Committee heard presentations from the undernoted organisations in respect of the Projects indicated: Back Football and Recreation Club - create all-weather playing surface adjacent to Community Centre at Coll; Carinish and District Village Hall Committee - renovate and extend Carinish and District Village Hall; Carloway Football Club - construct changing rooms adjacent to football field in Carloway; At the conclusion of the foregoing presentation, the Chairman left the meeting and the Vice-Chairman took the Chair for the remainder of the meeting. Leverburgh Village Hall Committee - demolish existing village hall in Leverburgh and construct new multi-function centre on the same site; West Side Association - construct boat slipway facilities in Port Bragar; Barvas and Brue Community Association - re-development of Barvas and Brue Community Centre to provide a multi-purpose facility offering a community office, Museum, café sports facilities and function/games area; West Side Recreation and Development Association - construct new football pitch in the village of Barvas, adjacent to Barvas Hall. |
Iochdar Bowling Club - create dedicated bowling facilities at Loch Carnan, South Uist, to meet the needs of Iochdar Bowling Club, together with other local Bowling Clubs, Schools, Youth Clubs and Voluntary Organisations; Marybank and Newvalley Community Centre Committee - construct a community centre for the villages of Marybank and Newvalley adjacent to Allt na Broige housing development; North Tolsta Community Council - extend Tolsta hall to provide changing facilities, storage space, kitchen, meeting room and community space; Point Recreation Club - re-develop existing playing field to include all-weather playing surface and extend hall to provide changing facilities and additional meeting space; Tong Recreation Land and Property Trust - refurbishment of the facilities at Tong Community Centre, including the development of the basement as an exh8ibition area, thermal insulation of the building, new three-phase electrical supply, and additional heating; and Ness Sports and Recreation Association - construction of new centre adjacent to Lionel School to provide improved indoor/outdoor facilities for the community in Ness. | ||
The representatives of each organisation set out the background to the organisation and its project, outlined the proposals, giving details of the anticipated benefits of the project and indicating the estimated cost of the project and the support requested from the Comhairle. The opportunity was afforded to Members of the Committee to ask questions of the representatives of each organisation. The Chairman and Vice-Chairman, as appropriate, thanked the representatives of the voluntary organisations for their presentations and indicated that the projects would be considered and prioritised by the Committee at its next meeting in March 1999. Following the close of the presentations, the Depute Director of Leisure Services reported that the total estimated value of the works proposed was £5.93m, with support of the order of £600,000 being sought from the Comhairle.
