The Chairman invited Mr Ian Wilson, Planning Officer, to address the Sub-Committee in relation to the application for outline planning permission for the erection of a house at 30 Newmarket, Isle of Lewis, in accordance with the procedure for hearing applicants and objectors. Thereafter, the Chairman invited Mr George Simmons, who had made representations in relation to the above planning application, to present his case and to answer questions put by Members of the Sub-Committee. |
||||
It was agreed that the Acting Director of Environmental Services be authorised to refuse outline planning permission for the erection of a house at 30 Newmarket, Isle of Lewis, for the following reasons:
(1) the Comhairle considers that the proposed site located directly in front of an existing property does not respect the predominant pattern of individual houses in the township area and is therefore contrary to policy HS8 of the Finalised Broadbay Local Plan; (2) the Comhairle considers that the proximity and orientation of the adjoining owner's property, to the rear of the site, is such that it will potentially give rise to overlooking and loss of amenity to the detriment of both properties. The development will, therefore, be contrary to policy DC1, in respect of the impact of the proposed dwelling on its surroundings, of the Finalised Broadbay Local Plan.
