Appointment of Chairman

The Principal Administrator reported that Mr Donald Macdonald, Head Teacher, The Nicolson Institute, had been appointed Chairman in accordance with Section 11, Schedule 2, paragraph 2(b) of the School Boards (Scotland) Act 1988.

The Director of Corporate Services submitted a report detailing the procedure to be adopted for the interviewing of Assistant Head Teachers.

It was agreed to note the report.

TEACHING STAFF

It was agreed that, in accordance with the provisions of Schedule 7A of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973, the public, including the press, be excluded from the meeting during consideration of the following item on the grounds defined in standing order 26(a), namely, that exempt information relating to an employee of the Comhairle would be disclosed.

2 Posts of Acting Assistant Head Teacher: The Nicolson Institute

The report of applications received for the two posts of Acting Assistant Head Teacher, The Nicolson Institute, the shortleet of candidates selected for interview for the post, together with the job advertisement, job description and person specification, was submitted and noted.

The Committee proceeded to interview the following candidates:

Kenneth Finlayson

Charles R W Rigg

Roderick G Maclean

Angus G Morrison

After the interview and full discussion of the relative merits of the candidates, it was agreed to recommend the appointments of Angus G Morrison and Roderick G Maclean to the posts of Acting Assistant Head Teacher, The Nicolson Institute.

Mr Morrison and Mr Maclean were invited into the meeting and informed that the Committee would be recommending to the Acting Director of Education and Leisure Services that they be appointed to the posts of Acting Assistant Head Teacher, The Nicolson Institute.

Mr Morrison and Mr Maclean confirmed their willingness to accept the offer of appointment from the Acting Director of Education and Leisure Services following the Committee's recommendation.
