Mr Luis Maciver was appointed Chairman of the Meeting.

APPEALS

Pupil AM

The Director of Corporate Services submitted a Report concerning an appeal lodged by pupil AM against exclusion from Sgoil Lionacleit.

The Chairman invited into the meeting the Senior Education Officer (South), Mr William Macdonald, Head Teacher, Sgoil Lionacleit, the pupil AM and his representative Cate Sheppard, Social Worker and the pupil's two foster carers.

The Senior Education Officer (South) and Ms Cate Sheppard presented respectively the cases for the Education Authority and the appellant. An opportunity was afforded to both parties and to the Committee to examine the statements made.

The parties then withdrew from the meeting.

After consideration of the full circumstances of the case and of the evidence presented, the Committee agreed to confirm the decision of the Education Authority to exclude AM from Sgoil Lionacleit as detailed in the letter from the Head Teacher of 23 November 1998.

The parties were invited into the Meeting and informed of the Committee's decision.
