The Principal Administrator chaired the meeting and called for nominations for Chairman of the Sub-Committee.

   

It was agreed to appoint Mr Norman L Macdonald as Chairman of the Sub-Committee for the period to May 2001.

Appointment of Vice-Chairman

The Chairman called for nominations for Vice-Chairman of the Sub-Committee.

   

It was agreed to appoint Mrs Morag Munro as Vice-Chairman of the Sub-Committee for the period to May 2001.

   

MINUTES

Education Sub-Committee

The minute of meeting of the Education Sub-Committee of 13 September 2000 was approved.

   

EDUCATIONAL PROVISION

Scheme of Specific Grants for Gaelic Education 1999/2000: End of Year Reports

With reference to item 47 of the minute of meeting of 9 March 2000 the Acting Director of Education and Leisure Services submitted a report concerning the progress made within the scheme of specific grants during 1999-2000 on a project by project basis. The two categories of project were outlined in the report and changes which took place during 1999-2000 were highlighted.

It was agreed to note the report.

   

It was agreed that, in accordance with the provisions of Schedule 7A of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973, the press and public be excluded from the meeting during consideration of the following items on the grounds that exempt information relating to particular employees of the Comhairle would be disclosed.

   

TEACHING STAFF

Establishment of Post of Teacher of Learning Support and English (0.4FTE)

The Acting Director of Education and Leisure Services submitted a report concerning the establishment of a 0.4 FTE post of Teacher of Learning Support and English at Sgoil Lionacleit. The report indicated that the post would be funded from Employee Expenses: Secondary Schools and that the postholder would assist with the provision of learning support to pupils in Sgoil Lionacleit, to help meet the increased demand in the school. It was also indicated that there had been a marked increased in the number of pupils with Records of Needs and also in the number of pupils who do not have a Record of Needs but who require learning support.

It was agreed to recommend that the establishment of a post of Teacher of Learning Support and English at Sgoil Lionacleit be approved.

Claim for Conservation of Salary by Mrs AYS

The Acting Director of Education and Leisure Services submitted a report concerning a claim for backdated pay differential from Mrs AYS. The background to the matter was outlined and the financial implications were detailed in the report.

It was agreed that the claim for backdated pay relating to salary conservation from Mrs AYS be not approved.
