The minute of meeting of 1 November 2000 was approved.

TEACHING STAFF

It was agreed that, in accordance with the provisions of Schedule 7A of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973, the press and public be excluded from the meeting during consideration of the following item on the grounds defined in Standing Order 26(a), namely, information relating to a particular employee, former employee or applicant to become an employee of, or particular office holder or former office holder, or applicant to become an office holder under the Comhairle.

Request for Payment of Interest: Case MJM

The Director of Corporate Services submitted an appeal by Mr MJM against a decision not to pay interest in respect of arrears of salary.

The Chairman invited Mr RHM, representing Mr MJM, and the Acting Director of Education and Leisure Services into the meeting.

The Chairman addressed Mr RHM, representing MJM, indicating that payment of interest had now been made by the Comhairle and apologising on behalf of the Education Committee for the delay in payment of the interest and the inconvenience this may have caused.

The Chairman asked Mr RHM if he was prepared to accept the payment of interest and that this would close the matter.

Mr RHM stated that he was prepared to accept the payment of interest on behalf of his client Mr MJM.
