It was agreed that, in accordance with the provisions of Schedule 7A of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973, the Press and Public be excluded from the Meeting during consideration of the following item on the grounds defined in Standing Order 26(c), namely, that exempt information relating to particular applicants for a service provided by the Comhairle would be disclosed. | ||

The Director of Corporate Services submitted a Report concerning an appeal against a decision of the Director of Education & Leisure Services to suspend a pupil from Lionacleit Hostel. A statement of the Education Authority's case together with a statement made by the appellants were enclosed. The Chairman invited into the meeting Mr & Mrs William Rusk, the appellants; Mr Murdo MacLeod, Depute Director of Education and Ms Esther Macdonald, Officer in Charge, Lionacleit Hostel representing the Comhairle. |
It was agreed that a visit be made to Lionacleit Hostel prior to the presentation of both cases. A site visit was made by the Sub-Committee with both parties in attendance. Mr Murdo Macleod presented the case for the Comhairle. The opportunity was given to Mrs Caroline Rusk to question Mr Murdo Macleod. The Sub-Committee were given the opportunity to question Mr Macleod. Mrs Caroline Rusk presented the case for the appellants. An opportunity was given to Mr Macleod to question Mrs Caroline Rusk. The Sub-Committee were given the opportunity to question Mrs Caroline Rusk. After the final summing up by Mrs Rusk then Mr Rusk and Mr Macleod, the parties withdrew from the meeting. | ||
After a full discussion of the matter, the Sub-Committee agreed that the grounds of the appeal by Mr & Mrs Rusk had not been substantiated and the appeal be not upheld. Mr & Mrs Rusk and Mr Macleod were then invited into the meeting and informed of the Sub-Committee's decision. | ||
