Site Visits to 20 North Shawbost and Traigh Shandaigh, Ness, Isle of Lewis |
With reference to items 10 and 11 of the Minute of Meeting of 27 August 2003, Mr Alastair Banks, Head of Development Services, outlined the arrangements for the Site Visits to 20 North Shawbost and Traigh Shandaigh, Ness, Isle of Lewis. In particular, Members' attention was drawn to the potential risks associated with the sinking sands at Traigh Shandaigh. | |

It was agreed to adjourn the Meeting at 9.40am. The Meeting reconvened at 20 North Shawbost, Isle of Lewis at 10.15am where the following Members were found to be present: | ||

The Chairman invited Mr Alastair Banks, Head of Development Services, to address the Meeting and answer Members' questions in relation to the site. Mr Banks responded to Members' questions. | ||

It was agreed to adjourn the Meeting at 10.50am. | ||
The Meeting reconvened at Traigh Shandaigh, Ness at 11.50am where the following Members were found to be present: Mr Alex A MacDonald Mr Angus McCormack Mr Peter Carlin Mr Ronald J Mackinnon Mr Angus Macdonald | ||
In the absence of the Chairman and Vice-Chairman, it was agreed to appoint Mr Ronald J Mackinnon as Chairman of the Meeting. | ||
Mr Ronald Mackinnon invited Mr Alastair Banks, Head of Development Services to address the Meeting and answer Members' questions in relation to the site. Mr Banks responded to Members' questions. | ||

It was agreed to adjourn the Meeting at 12.40pm. The Meeting reconvened in the Council Chamber, Council Offices, Stornoway at 1.25pm where the following Members were found to be present. | |

Chicken Sheds, 20 North Shawbost, Isle of Lewis |

The Director for Sustainable Communities submitted a Report concerning an application for planning permission for chicken sheds at 20 North Shawbost, Isle of Lewis. The Report gave background information, commented on the application and indicated that representations had been received. |

It was recommended in the Report that the Director for Sustainable Communities be authorised to grant planning permission for chicken sheds at 20 North Shawbost, Isle of Lewis, subject to the conditions detailed at Appendix 1 of the Report. | ||

It was agreed to recommend that the Director for Sustainable Communities be authorised to grant planning permission for chicken sheds at 20 North Shawbost, Isle of Lewis, subject to conditions to be determined by the Director for Sustainable Communities, including the following condition: | ||
|
"Notwithstanding the terms of the Planning Application Form, chickens shall only be housed in Sheds 1 and 2 as marked on the Approved Plan and shall at no time be housed in the building marked as Shed 3". | ||
|
Reason: "In order to protect the amenities of nearby residents". | ||
|
The Chairman declared an interest in the following Item and left the Meeting during consideration of the matter. | ||

In the absence of the Chairman and the Vice-Chairman, it was agreed to appoint Mr Ronald J Mackinnon as Chairman of the Meeting. | ||

The Director for Sustainable Communities submitted a Report concerning an application for planning permission for the renewal of permission to extract sand at Traigh Shandaigh, Ness from an area of some 2.8 hectares, towards the south-western end of the sand system on the Habost Machair. The Report gave background information, commented on the application and indicated that representations had been received. |

It was agreed to recommend that the Director for Sustainable Communities be authorised to grant planning permission for the extraction of sand at Traigh Shandaigh, Ness, Isle of Lewis, subject to the conditions shown at Appendix 1 of the Report. |
