The Minute of Meeting of 11 October 2000 was approved. |

Request for 40mph Speed Limit Through Borve T09.03 |
20 |
The Director of Technical Services submitted a Report concerning a request for a 40mph speed limit on the A859 through the village of Borve, Isle of Lewis. The Report indicated that the road had a relatively high housing density but did have a kerbed footpath, street lights and had good geometric lines with adequate visibility. The Report further indicated that the route did not meet the criteria for a speed limit as determined by Scottish Executive Industry Department Circular 1/93. It was agreed that the Director of Technical Services be authorised to implement a 40mph speed limit on the A857, through Borve as the 85th percentile speed limit was within the recommended limit as determined by reference to Scottish Executive Industry Department Circular 1/93. |
Request for 40mph Speed Limit on the B895 at Gress T09.03 |
21 |
The Director of Technical Service submitted a Report concerning a request for a 40mph speed limit on the B895 at Gress, Isle of Lewis. The area in question had a low housing density and there was very good visibility both North and South and vehicle use, as indicated by a traffic survey, was low. The Report further indicated that the road did not meet the criteria for a speed limit as determined by Scottish Executive Industry Department Circular 1/93. |
It was agreed that the Director of Technical Services be authorised to introduce traffic calming measures, including appropriate signing and lining, on the B895 at Gress
Request for Speed Limit - Tong Village T09.03 |
22 |
The Director of Technical Service submitted a Report concerning a request for a 30mph speed limit through Tong Village. The location had a high housing density and comprised low radius bends and sub-standard vertical alignments which restricted visibility and did not allow fast vehicle speeds. The Report further indicated that, because of the 40mph speed limit on the main road and the classification of the village road as a C class road, it would be appropriate to impose a 40mph speed limit through the village without a speed survey being carried out. |
It was agreed that the Director of Technical Services be authorised to implement a 40mph speed limit through Tong Village Road which would be in line with the main road speed limit and that an assessment in terms of a traffic survey be carried out within a period of six months and that the matter be reported back to the Sub-Committee.
Request for a 40mph Speed Limit on the A859 at Laxay T09.03 |
23 |
The Director of Technical Service submitted a Report concerning a request for a 40mph speed limit on the A859 through the village of Laxay. There was relatively high housing density throughout the village on both sides of the road and the road geometry included low radius bends that afforded moderate visibility. The Report further indicated that, although the recorded speed was above the limits determined by reference to Scottish Executive Industry Department Circular 1/93, it would be appropriate to impose a limit which would improve the overall village environment. |
It was agreed that the Director of Technical Services be authorised to implement a 40mph speed limit on the A859 through the village of Laxay. Arising from consideration of this item it was agreed that the Director of Technical Services would bring a Report to a future meeting of the Sub-Committee assessing the requirement for traffic calming measures at Cameron Terrace, Lochs.
