With reference to item 38 of the Minute of Meeting of the Transportation Committee of 24 April 1996, the Director of Technical Services submitted a Report concerning two outstanding Reports on pedestrian crossings at Goathill Road and Jamieson Drive, Stornoway. Details of the current position regarding the pedestrian crossings were given.

It was agreed to note the Report.

Arising from the above two items, the Chairman made a statement on behalf of the Chairman of the Transportation Committee welcoming the Road Safety Review 1997/98 document which had recently been published by the Comhairle and, while noting the encouraging figures, highlighted, however, that there was no room for complacency and commending the Review, together with the recently launched "belt up" leaflet as a way to encourage all road users to play their part in preventing road accidents.
