CONSTITUTION The Principal Administrative Assistant chaired the meeting and, in the absence of the Chairman, called for nominations for Chairman of the meeting. It was agreed to appoint Mr Donald Macdonald as Chairman of the meeting. | |

Road Signs and Markings T09.04 |

TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT With reference to item 92 of the Minute of Meeting of 3 December 1997, the Director of Technical Services submitted a Report concerning road signs and markings enclosing a Project Initiation Report on the subject. It was agreed to recommend that consideration be given to a programme for road signs and markings to the value of £70,000 within the Capital Programme approved by the Comhairle and from the budget dealing with minor road safety initiatives. |

With reference to item 38 of the Minute of Meeting of the Transportation Committee of 24 April 1996, the Director of Technical Services submitted a Report concerning two outstanding Reports on pedestrian crossings at Goathill Road and Jamieson Drive, Stornoway. Details of the current position regarding the pedestrian crossings were given. It was agreed to note the Report. |
Arising from the above two items, the Chairman made a statement on behalf of the Chairman of the Transportation Committee welcoming the Road Safety Review 1997/98 document which had recently been published by the Comhairle and, while noting the encouraging figures, highlighted, however, that there was no room for complacency and commending the Review, together with the recently launched "belt up" leaflet as a way to encourage all road users to play their part in preventing road accidents. | ||
