The Western Isles Archaeology
Service
In 1998, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar established
the first professional archaeological service for the Western Isles.
In this exhibition, Dr Mary Macleod, the Islands Archaeologist, explores
the work of this recently established service and its role in recording,
managing and interpreting the rich and varied archaeological heritage
of the Western Isles.
Conservation in the Museum
This exhibition will look at the Museum's
newly established conservation service and demonstrate the crucial work
which takes place behind the scenes to ensure that the Museum's collections
are safely preserved for enjoyment of present and future generations
of visitors. The Exhibition looks at some of the main threats to museum
objects and what steps the Museum Conservation Officer must take to
protect collections from these threats. This is illustrated with objects
and examples from the Museum collections. It also looks at the painstaking
work required to treat and make good damaged and broken objects with
examples from the collections.
