The following principles should be considered:

•  Any new buildings, should respect the traditional settlement layout.

•  Consider the landscape character and the presence or absence of trees;

•  Sites near existing development will be cheaper to service;

•  Seeking shelter from winter exposure and taking advantage of sunlight and aspect can reduce fuel bills;

•  Locations with natural backdrops are generally better.
