COMHAIRLE MESSAGE OF SUPPORT FOR GLASGOW

The Convener of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has expressed support from the Western Isles for the people of Glasgow in the aftermath of the tragic explosion in the city.

In a letter to Liz Cameron, Lord Provost of Glasgow, Convener MacDonald said:

‘On behalf of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and the people of the Western Isles may I express our shock and sorrow at the recent tragic events in your city.

The Western Isles and Glasgow have always had a special affinity because of the large number of Island people who have family links with the west of Scotland and the city in particular.

We are all aware of the work that is being undertaken by those who are dealing with the aftermath of this terrible event and have nothing but admiration for their courage and endurance.

I am confident that the people of Glasgow have the strength and fortitude to deal with this. Our thoughts are with you.’
