Highlands and Islands Business Awards

A young Stornoway-based electrician has won a major prize at the 2004 “Highlands and Islands Business Awards”.

“A. Campbell Electrical Services” was set up by Aonghas Campbell (25) in November 2002, with the help of a £1,000 grant from the Princes Scottish Youth Business Trust (PSYBT). Aonghas now employs two qualified tradesmen, and will take on a third in the near future. Just two of the many contracts he has secured in the short time the business has been trading are with Scottish Hydro Electric and Scottish Water.

The 19 th annual Highlands and Islands Business Awards - sponsored by the Press and Journal, Ernst and Young and Highlands and Islands Enterprise - were held at the Drumossie Hotel in Inverness. The awards were presented by the Chairman of MacDonald Hotels and Aviemore Highland Resort, Donald Macdonald, who also originates from Harris.

Aonghas beat off stiff competition from Argyll, the Highlands & Islands and Grampian to win the first prize cheque for £1,000, along with a stained glass plaque.

Donald Maclean, PSYBT Regional Chairman in the Western Isles said "I am delighted for Aonghas, this award gives superb recognition for his achievements. He is a highly enterprising individual with an excellent business and he is a very deserving winner."
