WESTERN ISLES ARTS FORUM EVENT - LOCHMADDY HALL, 17-18 SEPTEMBER

13 September 2004

On the 17th-18th September 70 representatives from arts organisations and those active in the arts field from throughout the Western Isles will be meeting in Lochmaddy Hall for the first Western Isles Art Forum event.

The purpose of the event is to provide a networking opportunity and discuss common issues.

In addition, the National Cultural Review will be discussed with Karen Watson from the Scottish Executive in order to ensure that issues relevant to island communities are registered and included in national policy.

There will also be a presentation from Bryan Beattie who has been commissioned to carry out the Social and Economic Impact Study of the Arts in the Western Isles.

On the Saturday a series of discussion topic groups will be planned around the findings from the June consultation. These will be informal but will hopefully result in a consolidation of ideas and agreed actions as part of the Western Isles Culture Strategy. These groups will include all art forms including crafts, literature and drama.

On the evening of Friday 17th there will be a concert and ceilidh, with music provided by young Uist musicians and Calum Iain MacCorquodale. This event will be open to the public.

This event is funded by Western Isles Enterprise, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Scottish Arts Council and supported by Taigh Chearsbhagh Museum & Arts Centre.
