The Western Isles Community Planning Partnership reaffirmed its support for Renewable Energy as a key economic driver for the Western Isles at its most recent meeting when it endorsed the recently revised Creating Communities of the Future economic regeneration strategy.
CPP Chairman Alex MacDonald said: "No other sector of the economy offers as much potential for economic regeneration of the Western Isles as Renewable Energy and I am pleased that the CPP has recognised that potential.
Creating Communities of the Future spells out clearly the aims of public agencies for the economic regeneration of our Islands. It identifies six key economic drivers that offer the potential for sustainable development and increased prosperity for our communities. These are; Renewable Energy, Information and Communications Technology, Business Infrastructure and Jobs Dispersal, Tourism, Culture and Heritage and the UHI Millennium Institute.”
A number of achievements have been made since the original launch of Creating Communities of the Future including the attraction of wind farm proposals, the implementation of the Connected Communities broadband project, significant investment in business infrastructure and the establishment of the ‘Consumer Direct’ advice centre.
A formal launch of the strategy will take place shortly.
