MAKE YOUR VIEWS KNOWN 6 December 2004

The Vice-Convener of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has urged the Western Isles public to make their views known about the Lewis Windpower windfarm application.

Angus Campbell said: “It is vital for the Comhairle to have as wide a range of opinion and views as possible in order to establish what the people of the Western Isles think of this proposal. I would ask anyone who has an opinion to make their views known to the Scottish Executive and the Comhairle. The nature of planning applications is that it tends to be those who hold the strongest views who shout the loudest but we want to know what the wider community thinks.”

An application for 234 three-megawatt turbines in Lewis was submitted to the Scottish Executive on 4th November by Lewis Windpower.

A full set of the documents can be seen at the Library or the Council Offices in Stornoway. They are also on view at Shawbost School library and Ness Development Centre. They can also be viewed on line at www.lewiswind.com.

If you want to submit representations either for or against the proposal, these should be sent to:

The Scottish Executive,
Consents and Emergency Planning Unit
2nd Floor
Meridian Court
5 Cadogan Street
Glasgow
G2 6AT
Email: lesley.thomson@scotland.gsi.gov.uk

The Comhairle is a principal consultee, but the application will be determined by the Scottish Ministers. It is therefore important for people to submit any comments they want to have taken into account by the determining authority to the Scottish Executive. The initial deadline for views from the public is 13th December.

The Comhairle has also set up a website - www.cne-siar.gov.uk/lewiswindpower -
where views can be submitted. A similar website will be in operation shortly for the Eisgein application.
