Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s Chairman of Transportation has welcomed progress on the introduction of a Stornoway/Aberdeen air route but also called for the ‘Public Service Obligations’ on all island air services.
Cllr Donald Manford said:
“I welcome the expected progress in the introduction of a Stornoway/Aberdeeen Air route. This is an important element in the comprehensive package of improvements for all Island Air Services being campaigned for by HITRANS and supported by the Comhairle. The Comhairle objective is to implement ‘Public Service Obligations’ on all such routes. It is only in this way that services can be safe from withdrawl, with frequency and seating guaranteed and a one third reduction in ticket costs being implemented. This is a commitment from the LibDem/Lab Coalition Agreement and the UK Government in its recently published White Paper, The Future of Air Transport'. It is now time to deliver on these statements of intent”.
