LEWIS CASTLE COLLEGE - STORNOWAY
Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and Lews Castle Trust
Detailed proposals to repair the A- Listed Lews Castle and convert it into an 18-bedroom, 4 star hotel, functions venue and museum were unveiled today by the Lews Castle Trust Steering Group.
The £7.3m scheme follows a 15-month feasibility study by consultants Austin Smith Lord and Tourism Resources Company.
The proposals went to today’s meeting of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s Arts and Leisure Committee where it was agreed to go out to consultation with key stakeholders, public and potential funders.
The Chairman of the multi-agency Lews Castle Trust Steering Group Norman L Macdonald said:
“The Steering Group has worked very closely with the consultants and to come up with what we believe is an exciting and viable scheme for Lews Castle. Our first task has been achieved and we hope that all stakeholders, including the Comhairle, the community, funding bodies and private sector interests will study the proposals carefully so we can move to the next stage.”
