In a recent survey by the Waste Aware Team, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, 99% of householders taking part in the recycling kerbside collection scheme have said that they are happy with the overall service. In April last year the Comhairle commenced a fortnightly Pilot Kerbside Recycling Collection to 450 homes in the Manor Park and Cearns area of Stornoway. Following the success of the pilot the scheme was extended to other areas on a phased basis and currently the service has been offered to over 3700 households in the Stornoway Town Area. The uptake for the scheme has been very positive with over 2100 households taking part (56%), which is a very positive sign up rate for an opt-in service.
