Point Power and Energy Company 29 March 2006

Point Power and Energy Company, a community energy company formed last year to explore the possibility of establishing a community wind farm for the benefit of people in the Point area, are holding a Public Meeting in the new Tiumpan Community Centre in Aird on Thursday 30th March at 7.30pm.

A feasibility study, grant aided by Highlands and Islands Community Energy Company, has been carried out by Sgurrenergy, who were commissioned by Point Power last November to carry out an assessment of the feasibility of installing a community wind farm on Stornoway General Common Grazings land. Sgurrenergy will present their findings to the meeting, and outline the implementation strategy that will be required to bring the project to fruition.

Point Power Chairman, Donald John MacSween said “We are hoping for a large turn out on Thursday night, both from our members and other interested members of the community, to hear what our consultants have to say. Point Power have come a long way in under a year, but we are under no illusions about the amount of work we have to do to make our vision a reality, in particular solving the difficulties associated with grid connection. However, with the continuing support and enthusiasm of our members and the community, we are confident that we can maintain the current rate of progress for the next year”
