A series of events to raise awareness of Energy, Waste and Water amongst employees of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar are planned for the Comhairle offices at Sandwick Road during the week of 19th-23rd June.
For staff and the general public there will be information stands in the reception area during the week including one from the Energy Savings Trust who will provide facts on insulation and draught proofing, heating systems, fuel bills/tariffs, central heating grants for people aged over 60, insulation grants and low cost measures to help cut fuel costs. There will also be information available on installing your own renewable form of energy. The stand is open from 10am to 4.30pm on Tuesday 20th, Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd June.
Other events include a series of energy efficiency workshops to increase awareness amongst employees, a ‘weight and watt watchers’ campaign aimed at reducing energy use and waste production from Comhairle offices and daily bulletins to Comhairle employees giving information on waste, water and energy issues.
In addition energy saving devices will be trialled throughout the week to assess suitability. These include timer switches and ‘intelligent sockets’ which switch off after a certain time if an appliance is not being used.
