The Convener of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar today welcomed the retraction of recent Health Board statements.
Cllr Alex MacDonald, in a letter to Health Board Chairman David Currie, said:
"I welcome the retraction made on the recent Health Board comments about the Vice-Convener and the admission that the language used was wholly inappropriate.
However, I do find it disappointing that in the press release issued by the Board on 14th July, there is a reference to ‘when he (the Vice-Convener) makes strong and indeed personal attacks on this Board or on senior figures within it, we are entitled to defend ourselves.’ I want to put on record that as far as I am aware, the Vice-Convener has made no personal attacks on the Board or senior figures within it. If you know differently perhaps you could let me know what these were?
The Comhairle is keen to enjoy close and cordial working relationships with its public sector partners in the Western Isles, foremost amongst these being the Board. Unfortunately the meeting arranged for 23rd June had to be cancelled due to lack of representation from the Board, and I would urge that a new date is found for this meeting as soon as possible.”
