Councillors Angus McCormack and Angus Graham who have been closely involved in trying to highlight the considerable difficulties in the affairs of the Western Isles NHS Board in recent months have welcomed the decisive action taken by Health Minister Andy Kerr to radically reform the way in which the Board conducts its business

Speaking today Councillor McCormack said:

It is encouraging that the Health Minister has recognised the difficulties we have been highlighting over recent months. This is a significant step towards resolving the many serious financial and management shortcomings within the Board. For my own part I look to working constructively with the new team.

Councillor Graham said:

none of the various issues and problems within the Health service in the Western Isles are unresolveable but it was clear that the senior members of the current team were incapable of delivering on their key tasks. On behalf of the people of these islands I thank the Minister for his decisive action.

Councillor McCormack and Graham also acknowledge the key role played by our MSP Alasdair Morrison in this whole affair. Without his resolute stance on the matter it would have been very difficult to have reached this successful outcome.
