Comhairle nan Eilean Siar is to provide a larger bus on its public transport route serving Laxdale School. The midi-size bus is to be replaced with a larger capacity vehicle and this means that fare-paying pupils should no longer have any difficulty in using the public transport service.
Legislation means that all passengers have to wear a seatbelt which prohibits standing on buses. This meant that sometimes there were not enough seats for the number of pupils wanting them.
Local Councillor Neil Campbell, said: “Obviously there were concerns from parents about pupils not being able to travel on the bus and I am pleased those concerns have been listened to. I would like to thank the parents for bringing this to my attention and I would also thank the Comhairle officials and the Chairman of Transportation who have acted promptly to resolve this matter”.
It is expected that the larger capacity bus will operate from the 9th October.
