Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s Trading Standards Officers are again warning consumers regarding Spanish lottery scams.
Many consumers in the Western Isles are receiving mailings supposedly from Spain, stating they have won a lottery reward. In order to receive the prize they are asked for their bank account details.
A spokesperson said “our advice is that people should never give their bank account details in response to an unsolicited letter, telephone call or email. These are attempts to obtain personal information which may then be used for criminal purposes”.
Some of the scams are operating under the name of El Gordo, International Lottery etc. International Lottery de la Primitiva, Euro Million International Promotion Programme, Spanish Sweepstake lottery, Highstake International Program and El-Mundo de la Primitiva.
