Over the last two weeks the Comhairle has distributed over 900 low energy lampbulbs to households across the Western Isles, and collected names and contact details for the recipients to put these names in a draw for further energy saving devices.
These lampbulbs will result in reductions of electricity bills across the Western Isles over the next year of £10,000. The bulbs will last on average, 5 years, producing a saving of £50,000 from lightbulbs alone.
A spokesperson said: “The underlying message is that if we all do a small part in changing how much energy we consume, it can make a large change”
The raffle prize winners are
Lewis: Mr T Cunningham of Coll
Harris: Ms D Macleod of Northton & Mrs K Macsween of Scalpay
Balivanich and Uists: Mr J Mackay of Torlum & Mr D Macintyre of Lochboisdale
Barra: Mr A Brown and Mrs H Macneil of Castlebay
And the winner of a low energy fridge is Mrs A MacSammonds of Carloway in Lewis
Last week also saw the Comhairle approve the signing of the Scottish Climate Change Declaration which will be formally announced and signed in January
