The first Harris Enterprise Showcase and Awards evening was held in Tarbert on Wednesday 28 March. All Harris schools were represented by pupils and staff. The aim of the event was for pupils to demonstrate the enterprising skills they have acquired through taking part in a wide range of activities throughout the past year. An audience of around 100 parents, business and local community members was entertained by pupils who spoke about the following enterprises:
- selling bouquets of daffodils
- running a French afternoon for parents
- producing a tourist leaflet for North Harris
- making and selling Christmas cards and crafts
- turning a classroom into a Castle set culminating in a Grand Hall Opening event and auction of children’s work
- ongoing transformation of school grounds.
Pupils from Sir E Scott gave interesting insights into the world of work through taking part in school’s work experience programme.
Awards were presented to schools in recognition of the enterprising work that is taking place. Enterprise Certificates were given to schools by Iain Mackinnon from the Education Department carrying out one of his last official duties before retiring from the Comhairle after 40 years.
