Stornoway Community Wardens have organised and co-ordinated a clean up of the Castle Grounds after noticing the amount of litter that was lying around.
With the assistance of Waste Aware and The Stornoway Trust similar clean ups will be carried out quarterly by youth groups.
The first clean up was by the Bridge Youth Club on Saturday March 31st with Waste Aware providing a skip, bags and gloves for the volunteers.
Other groups have been allocated to take part in clean ups on a quarterly basis.
The Community Wardens secured agreement from the Stornoway Trust and Waste Aware for donations totalling £200.00 for each of the groups following clean ups. This will be in addition to any sponsor money that the groups collect themselves.
- An independent evaluation for the Scottish Executive recently concluded that Scotland’s community wardens are having a positive impact on quality of life and helping tackle antisocial behaviour.
