Donna Macdonald from Sandwick, a 6th year pupil in The Nicolson Institute, is this year’s winner of the Donald Stewart Memorial Trust Award. Donna, who had some of her artwork showcased in the SQA Inspirational Art Bus Tour of Scotland as an example of, “a work of excellence” was nominated by her School both for the quality of her work and also that her work had been recognised nationally, raising the profile of her school, and her community both at local and national level.
The Award, which is being presented by the Donald Stewart Memorial Trust, in memory of the long and distinguished service provided by the late MP for the Western Isles, was handed over to Donna by Trustee Kenny Nicolson who was for many years Election Agent for the late MP.
Chairman of the Trustees, Murdo Macleod said, “The Trustees were most impressed with the quality of Donna’s work and were delighted that this had been recognised at national level. Many people throughout Scotland will have seen the quality of her work as it was showcased on this Bus Tour of Scotland, and this will surely add to the reputation of both the school and the islands as places of quality. As a former pupil of the Nicolson Institute himself, it is quite fitting that the Donald Stewart Memorial Trust award goes to Donna.”
