Responding to the news that the three turbines proposed by the North Harris Trust for Ardhasaig have been referred to a Public Local Inquiry by the Scottish Executive, the Vice-Convener of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Angus Campbell, said:
“It is disappointing that the Planning process seems unable to deal with a three turbine community owned proposal. If the Executive cannot reach a decision on this without going to an Inquiry then what future is there for windfarms in the Western Isles, whether they be small, community owned proposals or larger commercial operations? It is also disappointing that the views of the Comhairle as the democratically elected representatives for the Western Isles have been rejected. Here we have a project brought forward by the community, approved by the community’s representatives but halted in its tracks because of national designations”.
