Scotland and Rangers legend, John Greig MBE, will officially open the Point Sport and Recreation Association’s upgraded grass pitch and changing facilities on Monday 16th July. The opening match is between Point F.C. and the Glasgow Rangers Under 19 team. Comhairle nan Eilean Siar made a substantial financial contribution to this excellent new community facility.
Convener of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Alex MacDonald said:
“I am delighted that the Comhairle has been able to assist with this project. The new facilities will be a tremendous asset for the Point community and all those involved in taking this project to fruition are to be congratulated for their sterling efforts over the last few years. In years to come, I hope that these facilities will provide the opportunities for Point youngsters to hone their footballing skills and go on to greater things. The success of the Nicolson Institute Under 15 Football Team who recently won the Under 15 Scottish Cup has shown that island teams can compete at national level. Perhaps, in years to come, some of our talented island youngsters will be able to enter the professional football ranks and earn their living in this arena.”
