Chaidh a’ chiad coinneamh de buidheann-obrach ùr Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Buidheann-obrach na Gàidhlig, a chumail air 13 an Lùnastal 2007.
Chaidh Iain MacAoidh bho Thaobh Siar agus Nis a thaghadh mar Chathraiche Buidheann-obrach na Gàidhlig. Thuirt Comhairliche MacAoidh –
“Tha rùn làidir ùr taobh a-staigh na Comhairle, ìomhaigh na Gàidhlig a neartachadh anns a’ Chomhairle fhèin, agus anns a’ choimhearsnachd. Thàinig faireachdainn dhòchasach a-mach às a’ chiad coinneamh den Bhuidheann ùr, agus chaidh cuideam a chur air dealas na Comhairle gus Gàidhlig a dh’ àrdachadh agus a leasachadh, agus aonta a chur ri Plana Cànan Gàidhlig na Comhairle a tha air a dheasachadh do Bhòrd na Gàidhlig mar phàirt de Phlana Nàiseanta na Gàidhlig. Nuair a thèid am Plana a dhaingneachadh leis a’ Chomhairle, thèid lethbhreacan den Phlana an toirt am follais mar phàirt den obair co-chomhairleachaidh phoblach. Thèid aithisg eile a bharrachd a sgrìobhadh ro ath-choinneamh na Buidheann-obrach, a’ dèanamh sgrùdadh air dòighean anns am b’ urrainnear Gàidhlig a neartachadh taobh a-staigh na Comhairle.”

The first meeting of the new Gaelic Working Party of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar took place on Monday 13 August 2007.
Councillor John Mackay from Taobh Siar agus Nis was elected Chairman of the Gaelic Working Party. Councillor MacKay said –
“There is a fresh determination within the new Comhairle to raise the profile of Gaelic within the Comhairle and in the local community. The first meeting of the new Group was very positive and focussed on the Comhairle’s commitment for the promotion and development of Gaelic and also endorsed the Gaelic Language Plan for the Comhairle which has been prepared for Bòrd na Gaidhlig as part of the National Plan for Gaelic. Once the Plan has been ratified by the full Comhairle, copies of the Plan will be made public as part of the public consultation exercise. A further report will come before the next meeting of the Working Party looking at ways of strengthening Gaelic within the Comhairle”.
