Consultations On Community Priorities 28 August 2007

A community consultation is taking place across the islands on the priorities for the European LEADER Programme 2007-2013. Priorities should be based around the general theme of ‘revitalising communities’.

Potentially, this represents a significant financial investment for the Western Isles with an estimated programme worth of around £4.3m over the years 2007-2013.

A spokesperson said:

“This is a major opportunity for communities to have their say in determining local priorities and I would urge anyone with an interest in local economic development or rural issues to contribute.”

Within the general theme of revitalising communities, sub-themes such as new markets and products, progressive rural economy and conservation of the rural environment are likely to feature.

Consultation meetings are scheduled for:
Thursday 6th September Castlebay Commuity School 7.30pm-9pm
Thursday 6th September Leverburgh School 7.30pm-9pm
Monday 10th September Sgoil nan Loch 7.30pm-9pm
Monday 10th September Daliburgh School 7.30pm-9pm
Thursday 13th September Comunn Eachdraidh Nis 7.30pm-9pm
Thursday 13th September Carinish Hall 7.30pm-9pm

The consultations will be led by the Outer Hebrides LEADER Steering Group (Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, HIE Innse Gall, Scottish Natural Heritage and the voluntary sector).

Findings from the consultation meetings will be used to inform the local business plan and rural development strategy that will form the basis of the LEADER bid to the Scottish Executive.
