Gaelic Translation Seminar 27 September 2007

Commenting on the Enterprise Networks Review, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s Chairman of Sustainable Development, Mr. Archie Campbell, said:

Air Dihaoine 28mh Sultain, tha Comhairle nan Eilean Siar a’ cumail co-labhairt air eadar-theangachadh. Tha dùil ri luchd-labhairt bho Foras na Gaeilge an Èirinn agus cuideachd eòlaich as a Chuimrigh. Bidh an Co-labhairt a coimhead ri na duilgheadasan agus na cothroman a tha an cois obair eadar-theangachadh Gàidhlig, gu h-àraidh na dùbhlain a tha ro buidhnean poblach mar thoradh air an dleastanas fo Achd na Gàidhlig.

Thuirt an Comhairliche Iain MacAoidh, Cathraiche Buidheann na Gàidhlig aig a’ Chomhairle, “ Se co-labhairt cudromach a tha seo, a’ coimhead ris an t-slighe air adhart airson eadar-theangairean, a’ toirt cothrom don fheadhainn a tha an sàs anns a ghnìomhachas seo a bhith air bun-stèidh làidir”

On Friday 28th September, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar will host a working seminar looking at translation. Guest speakers include experts from Ireland and Wales. The seminar will consider the difficulties and the opportunities that exist for translators of Gaelic, particularly the challenges that public bodies face in terms of their responsibilities under the Gaelic Language (Scotland) Act.

Cllr Iain MacKay, Chairman of Buidheann na Gàidhlig at Comhairle nan Eilean Siar said; “ This is an important seminar in establishing the way forward for translators, and providing greater confidence to those who work in this field”
