94% Satisfaction rating with the Islands as a place to live 26 November 2007

94% of respondents in the Outer Hebrides Community Survey said they were satisfied with the Islands as a place to live.

Amongst the reasons for living in the islands were the ‘peace and quiet’ and ‘a good place to bring up a family’.

The Community Survey was carried out in September 2007 and has been analysed by Ipsos MORI Scotland.  The Survey asked a range of questions about public services and local communities and the results will be used to inform decisions about future policies and services in the islands.

A total of 2,995 households returned a paper questionnaire. This represents a response of 25% (based on all 11,731 households). This response rate compares favourably with that of a typical resident survey.

Commenting on the survey results a spokesperson for the OHCP said: “It’s good that so many households took the time to complete and return this questionnaire.  We all know the islands are a great place to live and it is good to see this confirmed by this survey.  The information about public services and communities will be used by the Partner agencies in planning for the future”

The results of the Survey are available on the Comhairle’s Internet Site.
