COMATAIDHEAN CHOMHAIRLE NAN EILEAN SIAR ANN AN GÀIDHLIG

Airson a’ chiad turas bho chaidh Comhairle nan Eilean Siar a stèidheachadh ann an 1976 bidh gach Comataidh den Chomhairle a’ coilionadh an cuid obrach tro mheadhan na Gàidhlig. Airson a’ chiad uair thèid Comataidh Sgrùdaidh na Comhairle a’ chumail tro mheadhan na Gàidhlig, agus le sin tha gach Comataidh den Chomhairle a-nis dà-chànanach.

Thuirt Neach-gairm na Comhairle, Ailig Dòmhnallach –

“Tha e na adhbhar toileachais gu bheil mo cho-chomhairlichean air co-dhùnadh gu bheil iad airson Gàidhlig a chleachdadh aig na Comataidhean agus tha sin a’ dearbhadh gu bheil Comhairle nan Eilean Siar dealasach ann an dàimh ri ath-bheothachadh a’ chànain anns na h-Eileanan an Iar. Tha sinn gu sònraichte uasal as an Luchd-cathrach nach eil fileanta sa Ghàidhlig ach a roghnaich gum biodh na Comataidhean aca fhèin dà-chànanach. S e seo a’ chiad turas aig an seo tachairt ann an Comhairle sam bith an Alba agus tha e na adhbhar moit gu bheil Comhairle nan Eilean Siar air an ceum eachdraidheil seo a ghabhail agus tha seo a’ daingneachadh gach iomairt a tha a’ Chomhairle air a ghabhail thairis nam bliadhnachan as leth a’ chànain.

ALL COMHAIRLE NAN EILEAN SIAR COMMITTEES GO GAELIC

For the first time since Comhairle nan Eilean Siar was set up in 1976 all Comhairle Committees will now conduct their business through the medium of Gaelic. The Comhairle’s Audit and Scrutiny Committee be taken in Gaelic for the first time this week, thereby completing the line up of all Comhairle Committees in Gaelic.

Convener Alex MacDonald said –

“I am delighted that my colleagues have decided to use Gaelic at all Committees and this shows the commitment of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar to the revitalization of Gaelic in the Western Isles. It is particularly commendable that Chairpersons who are not fluent Gaelic speakers have decided to take committee debates in Gaelic. This is a first for any Council in Scotland and I am proud that Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has taken this historic step which will build on all the other positive initiatives which the Comhairle has taken over the years on behalf of the Gaelic language”.
