Communities Scotland has announced that the Comhairle has received an additional allocation of Private Sector Housing Grant funding from the Scottish Government. A further allocation of £741,000 has been awarded towards the priorities of Adaptation Grants and cases involving Care and Repair clients. The Chairman of the Environment and Protective Services Committee, Councillor Norman A Macdonald said “ This additional funding will help to clear the backlog of existing grant applications for Care and Repair clients, some of whom have been waiting for their grants to be approved since 2005. Unfortunately this additional funding does not mean that any new enquiries or application can be accepted yet and we await with interest the announcement of the Comhairle’s allocation for years’ 2008/09 and 2009/10. Meantime, the Comhairle is seeking a meeting to make representations to the Scottish Government for adequate resources to enable the improvement of Below Tolerable Standard housing throughout the Western Isles in the years to come. ”
