Trading Standards officers at Comhairle nan Eilean Siar are warning consumers to be aware of letters headed ‘Final Reminders’ from the Hebrides Prize Register- a company based in Ross on Wye.
A spokesperson said: ‘We have received several complaints from consumers who were alarmed when they read the letter title, as it gave the impression that they were in debt to the company.’
The letters state that you have won a prize but in order to claim it you must register by phoning a premium rate phone number, costing around £9, or by writing directly to the promoter.
The letter lists several prizes which you may have won, however TS suggest that people read the small print to establish what exactly the prize actually includes.
TS advise that if something seems too good to be true then it usually is.
