Consultation meetings on a Mallaig-Lochboisdale-Barra ferry service have been suspended pending consideration by the Scottish Government on a private ferry proposal from Storas Uibhist.
The meetings were to have been held in early September to discuss the details and implications of a Mallaig-Lochboisdale-Barra service.
However, the Comhairle had been criticised by Storas Uibhist who claimed the consultations would delay implementing a service.
Cllr Donald Manford, Chairman of Transportation said: “Given that Storas Uibhist have clearly stated that consultation may be harmful to their private ferry submission it has been agreed that the consultation will be suspended. I do not accept that it would have delayed matters but I think it’s important that any such consultation is carried out in an atmosphere free of contention. The consultation will therefore not be held until the Storas Uibhist proposals have been given full consideration by the Scottish Government”.
